What is an EMDR Intensive?

EMDR Intensives are longer session (3 or 6 hours, with breaks included) in which we are focused primarily on processing trauma. They are typically done much less frequently than shorter EMDR sessions.

Why EMDR Intensives?

  • More Processing, Less Warm Up: With every new session of EMDR, there is time at the beginning of the session to catch up, settle in, and get in to the material we are processing. When we do intensives, we don't need to keep warming up, so we manage to process more material and get to the positive outcomes you are seeking faster.

  • Fewer Interruptions: When processing trauma, it can be challenging to end a session in the middle of processing something significant. Although this can happen in longer sessions as well, we can often get through more of the material and end on feeling of completion.

  • Accelerated Healing: Intensive sessions condense weeks or months of therapy into a half or full day so you can feel relief much sooner.

Why do EMDR?

EMDR is an evidence-based approach for treating trauma (experiences stuck in our body and mind that weren't able to be fully digested when they happened). Those stuck experiences can have big impacts on our day-to-day functioning, how we see ourselves in the world, and our emotional states. When we allow our body the space and time it needs to process those stuck experiences, we relieve our bodies of the stress of those experiences. Many people experience great relief and positive change in their lives, their ways of seeing themselves, and their relationships.

How do I know if EMDR is right for me?

EMDR is a well-researched protocol, and the first step is assessment to make sure that EMDR is right for you and your concerns. Before booking any intensive sessions, we can have one or more regular hourly sessions to make sure it's a good fit for you and that you have all the tools you need.

Packages: All packages involve one or more 50-minute sessions (online or in person) to build the foundation for processing and complete assessment and planning. These are separate sessions booked at the typical rate. Once we know each other and that is completed, further intensives can be booked according to need.

3 Hour Package

The 3 hour intensive includes some time to prepare, and then we dive into processing. Approximately halfway through, there will be a brief break for using the bathroom or eating a snack. At the end, we will spend some time (often 30 minutes or so) wrapping up and debriefing our session.

Pricing: $900

A 3 hour EMDR Intensive is equivalent to 3.6 standard therapy sessions. Initial intake sessions are billed at the regular 50-minute rate of $250.

6 Hour Package

The 6 hour intensive is offered on occasional weekend days, as well as full weekdays. We use some time at the beginning to prepare, and then move into processing. About halfway through, we will have a one-hour break where you can have a chance to eat lunch or do other self-care activities. After the break, we will carry on with processing, building on the momentum of the work we've already done. We take time at the end to wrap up, ground, and debrief the session.

Pricing: $1800

A 6 hour EMDR Intensive is equivalent to 7.2 standard therapy sessions. Note, due to the one hour break, you will need to schedule 7 full hours for this package. Initial intake sessions are billed at the regular 50-minute rate of $250.

Cancellation Policy:

Because EMDR intensives require reserving a large block of clinical time, a valid credit card must be kept on file to secure the booking. You will not be billed until after your appointment, and you may use e-transfer, credit card, or cash.

Given the large block of clinical time reserved for these appointments, intensives require 7 days advance notice for any cancellations or rescheduling. Missed or late-cancelled appointments will be billed at the full rate.

Insurance: Please confirm with your insurance provider their policies for coverage of longer sessions. Many insurance providers have daily limits. Clients are responsible to pay upfront for sessions and submit their receipts for reimbursement by their insurance provider.
